Recently I attended a meeting where we were planning our annual fundraising event, our Skills and Service Auction for 2015.
Memories of our very first auction came to my mind. It was held at the Teaneck Women’s Club because our own building on Larch Avenue was undergoing renovations at that time.
We had borrowed the idea from the Washington Society, where it had been very successful.
The enthusiasm that filled the room was contagious. There was food (of course) and plenty of wine, but most of all there was the warmth our members.
I thought back to some of the events over the years that Martin and I purchased and greatly enjoyed.
There were formal dinner parties, barbecues, pool parties, concerts and dessert parties, a weekend in the Poconos which we shared with three other couples, weekend in the Berkshires, game nights, music nights, trips to the Botanical Gardens, art work, hand crafted jewelry, hand decorated scarves, handcrafted baby sweaters, homemade cakes, etc.
These events were not only delightful but opened up an opportunity to get to know members who later became warm and wonderful friends.
I hope the spirit of those days will continue for many years to come!
