The remains of two longtime members of our Society, Bob and Edith Levine, were interred at the National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., with full military honors on March 14.
Their daughters, Jane Powers and Nancy Harney, along with additional family and friends, attended a dignified and solemn ceremony. I and my daughter, Audrey Jones, a graduate of our Sunday School, attended the ceremony, which was solemn and dignified. The beautiful tribute to Bob and Edy included a gun volley salute, a bugler playing “Taps,” and an Honor Guard.
This special ceremony honored Bob’s World War II military service during the invasion at Normandy Beach, France, in June 1944. During the interment, a rabbi blessed the urns with Bob and Edy’s remains before they were buried in their final resting place. Edy died in June 2020 and Bob in August 2022.
You can read more about Bob’s extraordinary experience during World War II and the lifelong friendship he and Edy maintained with the descendants of the German doctor who saved Bob’s life.
