Sunday Gathering: Democracy and the Fallacy of the Excluded Middle

March 10 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

When John Farmer Jr., director of the Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics, was asked whether he thought American democracy was under threat, he replied with the following; “The term I prefer in describing the current state of affairs is the politics of the excluded middle,” suggesting that both sides of the political spectrum often push “a false choice between two extreme choices” rather than a democracy that pushes for collaboration.

In this talk, Leader Curt Collier will ask: To what extent is democracy under threat, how did it get there, and what are possible remedies to ensure that “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth”?

This talk is at the meetinghouse and on Zoom. The Zoom link will be in members’ weekly Focus newsletter and may be obtained by emailing [email protected].
