The AEU Assembly

In June 2015, the 100th Assembly for representatives from Ethical Societies across the U.S. took place in Stamford Connecticut. As was reported in a previous Focus, Azar Gordon was honored for volunteer activities and Bob Gordon was elected to the AEU Board.

There were many workshops and events during the four-day assembly. In addition to the Bergen Leader Joe Chuman, speakers from the Bergen Society included Liz Collier, who gave a workshop on Attracting Young Adults to Ethical Culture Societies, Paulo Ribeiro, who facilitated a colloquy, and Sabine Salandy who co-ran a workshop on Growing and Sustaining Ethical Education for Children. Also attending from Bergen were Alan Berger, Terri Karp, Gregg Gordon, Ellen McBride, Linda Bennett, Ken Karp and me.

At the business meeting, we passed resolutions on renewing our call for the elimination of nuclear weapons, lifting the expired deadline for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment and calling for criminal justice reform. We also heard from James Croft, leader intern at the St. Louis Society, who reported on their participation in the Ferguson protests. Click here to watch a clip of his talk.
