Rick McKay’s moral commitment to his fellow humans was in evidence as he spoke Sunday of his fundraising work for St. Mary’s School & Child Rescue Center in Nyeri, Kenya. Among other aspects, he described the specific example of a bright young man who learned computer skills at St.Mary’s, and went on to found a small firm that developed a criminal database used today by local Kenyan authorities. One of many such success stories, it is very unlikely this young man would have been able to learn those skills otherwise. The fruit borne of St.Mary’s lifted up not only the young man and his (now) employees and their families, but also Kenyan society.

Having himself reaped such personal gratification from his work at St.Mary’s, Rick also strives to help others find and exercise their own philanthropic passions. Many among us could share some of our three T’s, as described by Rick, to the benefit of others and ourselves: Time, Treasure, Talent. By improving the lives of others, we also improve our own.
