Here is a message from Joe Chuman:

Dear Members of the Society,
It is with the greatest heartfelt sadness that I announce that our dear member, Rudy Herzog, died on Tuesday afternoon, May 12th. Rudy died in the loving presence of his son, Lenny, and his daughter Valerie, and family.
Rudy Herzog was our member of longest standing, having been present at the founding meeting of the Society in 1953. He was also extremely devoted to the Society, its ideals and our community for the past 62 years. Rudy held several positions in the Society and generously initiated a growth fund to help secure the Society’s development and its future.
Born in Germany, Rudy was a junior Olympian and remained athletically active and physically fit until the very end of his life. He later fled the Nazi regime and resettled in the United States.
Having lived in Tenafly for many years, he spend his last several years in the County Manor in Tenafly, where he lovingly, and with ceaseless devotion, cared for his wife, Martha, who predeceased him.
Prior to moving to the County Manor, Rudy was an active member of the Society and a frequent presence who through his humility and decency won the admiration and respect of fellow members and friends. He was able to join us for our 60th anniversary gala in November, 2013, and the last time we saw him at the Society was when he attended our Community Dinner last December.
Rudy’s death came just a few days after he celebrated his 95th birthday, having lived a rich and productive life. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara and Valerie and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Rudy Herzog on Friday evening, July 10th. More information will follow.
With sadness, and with reverence for a beautiful soul,
Joe
