It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of our longstanding member, Helene Farber. Helene died yesterday (Nov. 4, 2020) at the Holy Name Hospice after a long period of decline. Although physical challenges had kept her away from the Society for a long time, in years past Helene had been an active and engaged member of our community.
Helene was a person of strong ethical convictions and progressive political sensibilities. She was a devoted activist who was committed to many causes that reflected the ideals of Ethical Culture. She was an informed critic of politics, both national and local, and an active member of the Gray Panthers and other organizations. Perhaps Helene’s most notable and lasting achievement was as a major founder of the senior citizens housing project on East Cedar Lane in Teaneck.
Helen had a keen mind and a warm heart. For the past seven years, she was fortunate to be the recipient of the love of her son, Aram, who returned to Teaneck to care for his mother.
There will be a private service for Helene on Sunday. A future service for the Ethical community may be planned.
Helene was 95 years old.
In sorrow,
Joe Chuman
