A memorial service was held June 20 for our longtime, beloved member Barbara Griffin, who died early last month at the Jewish Home for Assisted Living in River Vale. She was 82 years old. The remembrance below is from Leader Joe Chuman.
Barbara and her husband Jim lived in Teaneck since 1970 and have been very devoted and active members of our community for over 40 years. Barbara was a graphic designer who brought her skills to the Society and took leadership in redesigning our brochures and literature. She developed close and endearing friendships in the Society and was always hospitable, welcoming, and engaged others with warmth and humor. Barbara had a strong social conscience and founded a Meals on Wheels program in Jersey City, and with Jim was active in Bergen County’s Fair Housing Council.

Barbara and Jim were married for 51 years in a relationship of great love and mutual devotion. Barbara leaves her two children, Eric and Audrey, who grew up in our Sunday School, two grandchildren, Morgan Jones and Everett Griffin (she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Shannon Jones), her son-in-law, Nate Jones, and her brother, Frank Lotz, and other members of her extended family.
Barbara, tragically, suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease for the past several years. During that time, Jim was daily at her side extending his love, care, and kindness in ways that were truly extraordinary.
