Today’s Platform Address was by Rev. Dr. Willard Ashley and the title of his address was, “Looking For Prophets in All The Wrong Places”. Among many other accomplishments Rev. Ashley is the Vice President of Community Relations, Director of the Center for Clergy Care, and Tenured Associate Professor of Practical Theology at New Brunswick Theological Seminary.
Rev. Ashley’s address was inspiring and provocative. He said that America is in need of leaders who unapologetically take an ethical stance whereas instead we have public personalities who glorify bad behavior and bombard us with misleading and irrelevant information. Clarity is power, he said, and we must focus on and support those who communicate with transparency, simplicity and truth.
Rev. Ashley is a practical theologian and he used Martin Luther King as an example of a prophets who had eyes for the wrongs that others were blind to and who shone a light where there was darkness – and who sought wholesale changes in society.
