We’re upgrading the chairs for our meetinghouse. The Decorating Subcommittee of our Building Committee has selected new, upholstered chairs with three-inch padding in the seats. Diane Koszarski, a member of the Decorating Subcommittee, showed samples at our recent Membership Meeting.
The chairs will be in the style of the chair on the left in the photo, but will be the color of the chair on the right. The Society is ordering 64 of those chairs, plus 10 chairs like the maroon model, right, but with arms.
Plans call for storing our current chairs in a new outdoor shed, for ease of use at outdoor events.
You can sponsor a chair
The new chairs will cost approximately $5,000 and will arrive in about five months, Diane said. The subcommittee plans to create a campaign that would allow members to “sponsor” a chair, either in their own name or to honor someone else. Details of this sponsorship plan will be announced when they are in place.
More improvements planned
Diane mentioned other ideas the subcommittee has on the drawing board, including:
- A furniture grouping in the main room (in the area currently used for chair storage) that would create a lounge set-up for easy socializing.
- Room-darkening window shades to help create the right lighting for movies and screen-viewing during Gatherings, etc.
- Turning the alcove into a theater space with a proscenium curtain that opens onto two “fly curtains” that will cover storage space for chairs, whiteboard, microphones, and other equipment.
- Two new chairs for our Sunday speaker and presider.
- A streamlined Wi-Fi and sound system.
Members of the Decorating Subcommittee, besides Diane, are Curt Collier, Building Chair Javier Valencia, Eric Sandhusen, Jim Norman, and Alpana Sikder. Former Decorating Subcommittee members Azar Gordon and Amy Bly also helped with this project.
If you are interested in the Decorating Subcommittee’s work, your participation would be welcome. Members may contact Eric Sandhusen, subcommittee chair, or Diane Koszarski.
