Ellis Island Trip 2012

April 14, 2012

Good Afternoon, everyone!

We will begin our trip tomorrow April 15, 2012 from Ethical at about 9:30. It would be great to get to Liberty State Park by 10-ish, so we could maybe get on the 10:40 boat. If not, there is an 11:00 boat (see below). Whoever needs a ride can get one, I’m sure, so come on down if you want.

It doesn’t take long to get to the island, and I’ve got about half an hour planned, so any other time you’d like to spend on the island it up to you, your family, or your ride.

I’m looking forward to it!

The Ethical Culture Program
Your family will be assigned the role of a family from another country. You will have information about the country that family came from, why people would have left it, the route they would have taken to the United States, where in the US they would have settled, and the type of work they may have taken up.

Upon entry to the Immigration Center, there will be activities for your “family” to complete. These will take place in the Baggage Room, the Great Hall/Registry Room, the Through America’s Gate exhibit , and the Treasures from Home exhibit. This program should take about half an hour, and is entirely optional. After that, your family is welcome to explore the Museum as you wish, and leave for home whenever you wish.

What We Do For Fun….

There's always time for play: celebrations, discussions (some in Spanish -- find Conversemos on our calendar on the fourth Tuesday of the month), hikes, picnics, cultural outings, and affinity groups like our monthly Men's Dinners and Women's Dinners.
