NY1.com documented the Forum on Charter Schools held on Sunday June 24.
The topics were:
Are charter schools a boon or a bane to communities in New Jersey? The administration of Gov. Chris Christie promotes charter schools, but the research on their effectiveness is mixed, and the public is divided, with strong opinions on both sides.
The charter school question is ripe for a discussion, and The Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County presentied a forum that explored the role of charter schools in public education, with a particular focus on how charter schools are funded in New Jersey.
The forum was free and all were welcome. Three distinguished speakers from diverse points of view formed the panel:
Margot Embree Fisher, member of the Teaneck Board of Education
Shavar D. Jeffries, J.D., Associate Professor, Seton Hall School of Law, Center for Social Justice
Paul L. Tractenberg, J.D., Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor and Alfred C. Clapp Distinguished Public Service Professor of Law, Rutgers Law School-Newark
