GreenFaith’s Central Bergen Circle, a coalition partner with the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County, together with seven other congregations in Bergen County, honored two organizations with awards on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Fort Lee Public Library.
One award went to Teaneck Girl Scout Troop 19 for advocating that the town have retailers charge for plastic bags. It took the Girl Scouts two years of persistent work with the Town Council, but an ordinance was finally passed and customers will be charged 5 cents for each plastic bag.
The second award went to Leonia Superintendent of Schools, Joanne Megargee, left in photo below. Superintendent Megargee responded

Janet Glass, member and immediate past president of the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County, presented the awards, representing GreenFaith.
Following presentation of the awards, climate specialist Susan Golden presented a program on the Ethics of Climate Change, which highlighted the most vulnerable communities around the world.
