Who Is Speaking for the Planet?

September 8, 2014

It’s been said that there will be more climate refugees in the future than political refugees. How we came to this place of environmental degradation may be argued, but we can see that climate change is here.

The Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County has a bus headed to the September 21st Peoples Climate March. We have open seats on our bus. The bus will leave from Teaneck and will take participants to New York City. The March’s goal is to draw attention to the major global crisis of climate change in advance of the United Nations’ Climate Summit 2014 two days later. World leaders will gather to discuss this issue. Consensus on collaborative action must take place, and they need to hear our voices. To that end, demonstrations and other gatherings will take place simultaneously around the world. “People, Planet and Peace Over Profit,” is the cry. The issues are to “demand an end to fossil fuels, mobilize for system change” and provide “living wage jobs now.”

The March will begin at Columbus Circle near Central Park, head down 6th Avenue to 42nd Street and then turn west to 11th Avenue, ending between 34th and 38th Street.

To reserve a place on the bus go to: peoplesclimate.org. On the website, click on “transportation,” then scroll down to NJ. Click on NJ and you will see a bus for Teaneck. You can get a ticket for $16.82. The bus will leave around 9:30 am and will return about 4 pm. Lunch will not be provided. More details about location will be forthcoming, so check back on the site after you have your ticket. For more details email Lou at lmsteinberg54@gmail.com

It takes everybody to change everything. Come with us.

There’s a lot to do.
