Meet Our Newest Members, Andy and Deborah Krikun

Both Andy and Deborah Krikun, our newest members, have taught in our Sunday School and are teachers in their professional lives.

Andy Krikun is professor of Music at Bergen Community College, where he teaches courses in songwriting, world music, and popular music and where he founded and directs the BCC Pop/Rock Ensemble.

He holds a master’s degree in Ethnomusicology from UCLA and a PhD in Music Education from New York University. His research has appeared in academic journals and books, and he has presented at numerous international conferences.

In addition to his teaching and scholarship, Andy has maintained an active career as a performer, composer, and recording artist. His band, Andy and the Rattlesnakes, was a seminal force in the Los Angeles Punk/New Wave scene in the early 1980s. He is a graduate of the Ethical Culture Sunday School and has taught in the Sunday School.

Deborah Krikun is a digital media artist who creates interactive digital media works using emerging technologies with concepts inspired by collected observations, user experience data, and storytelling.

As associate professor at SUNY Westchester Community College, she founded a new degree program, Interactive Technologies, with concentrations in Digital Marketing, Web Design, Computer Animation, and Game Design. She is currently exploring teaching methods that use gamification and artificial intelligence to enhance learning experiences.

She looks forward to reconnecting with Ethical Culture of Bergen County, where in 1975 she taught painting and drawing for the Sunday School.
