How You Can Help the Community in the Covid-19 Era

Our Society’s Social Action Committee has compiled this list of ways you can help the community.

From the safety of your home

Donate funds: Support local restaurants that are providing meals for medical workers caring for Covid-19 patients. One option is Zendiggi, the restaurant of Jean Strickholm’s son-in-law. Go to www.gofundme.com and put “Closter restaurants” in the search bar.

Teaneck Rotary Club: Donations are used to purchase gift cards for local restaurants, which are then distributed to Holy Name Medical Center staff. Send checks made out to: Rotary Club of Teaneck, PO Box 222, Teaneck NJ 07666, with HNMC in the memo line. Questions: call Rotary President Danielle Richards, 201-745-7679.

Support local feeding programs, including the Center of Food Action in Englewood: https://cfanj.org/donate-funds-today/

Donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Check your basement and garage for leftovers from home-improvement projects, including surgical masks, N95 respirators, and non-latex exam gloves. They may be usable even if past expiration date. Ways to donate:

Masks sewn by member Christina Grant.

Make masks, or donate materials (cotton fabric, 1/8-or 1/4-inch elastic) at www.NJMasks.com. If you have questions, contact [email protected] or member Christina Grant, [email protected]

Clap at 7 pm for two minutes: In a show of support for health-care workers, go outside and join your neighbors. Or, start the tradition on your block.

Create a lawn sign or window display supporting health-care workers.

A Teaneck resident offers thanks.

If you’re going out
