Dr. Arthur Dobrin discusses his book

“Teaching Right from Wrong: 40 Things You Can Do to Raise a Moral Child”

As we enter the New Year we’re all a bit older but are we wiser? As parents, do we have all the right answers and do we have a successful plan for parenting all worked out? Or do we still struggle with the challenges of raising honest, thoughtful, and compassionate children. As parents, grandparents and guardians, at times we are plagued with many questions pertaining to this issue including questions about our own actions, values, and priorities!

An absolute minefield !! Added to this mix, are children who are bombarded with mixed messages from the internet, friends, and the government. Children are subject to peer pressure, reality T.V. and all the questionable role models these shows provide. Right about now, we’re realizing that raising children doesn’t come with a manual and this job is a thorny one! Well, take a deep breath, because help and support is on the way!

The Adult Education Committee in collaboration with the Religious Education Committee is offering an opportunity to parents, guardians, and grandparents to meet for 3 sessions to discuss “Teaching Right from Wrong”: 40 Things You Can Do to Raise a Moral Child” by Dr. Arthur Dobrin. Dr. Dobrin’s book is a warm and optimistic 40-step approach that provides parents with the “how-tos” of raising happy, ethical, and moral children. Dobrin’s book dispenses practical advice to parents so that they may be able to teach children to be independent thinkers as well as dignified individuals. He acknowledges parent’s fears about outside influences, such as the internet and television that can harm and deter our children’s moral development and offers advice on how to take control and counter these forces. The author offers hope that raising moral and caring children is something that can be achieved with the right attention and reinforcement. The group will meet on Saturday mornings at the Society from 10:30-12:00, on April 9th, May 14th, and June 4th. For members the cost is $20 (this includes the purchase of the book); non-members $25.00. More information will be available soon through the Adult Education brochure. Please tell family and friends about this opportunity to read and discuss this timely book.
