People have sung about their desire for justice, fairness, and peace for time immemorial, says one of this morning’s presenters, member Dan Rosenblum, who is deeply interested in socially and politically engaged folk music. Those songs may lament conditions, poke fun at the mighty, or inspire activism, he says.
Wes Matsui, co-presenter, will draw on his long association with the Teaneck Community Chorus, where he is director of music, and its mission to sing for diversity, inclusion, and good causes. They will discuss a few examples from various traditions, focusing on how songs serve these different purposes. The morning will include a sing-along.
This Gathering is at the meetinghouse and on Zoom. The Zoom link will be in members’ weekly Focus newsletter and may be obtained by emailing [email protected].
