As the City of San Francisco weighs plans to redress the harms visited historically on enslaved people and the continuing institutional and systemic oppression of their descendants, we will examine the pros and cons of offering reparations as a means of providing restorative justice.
This topic is fraught with strong opinions and emotions on all sides. In this discussion, led by member Orion Hopper, we will cover the history of the reparations movement and discuss modern proposals and critiques, and we will cite recent successful examples of restitution for historic wrongs.
