Platform: Why I am Not a Humanist

January 23 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Curt Collier

For nearly 50 years, Ethical Culture and Humanism have grown ever closer together, says our speaker, Interim Leader Curt Collier. Howard Radest, the first leader of the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen (1956-1964), was co-editor of “The Humanist” magazine and served as president of the International Humanist and Ethical Union, drawing Ethical Culture ever closer to the American Humanist Association. And yet, the current interim leader of the Bergen Society is decidedly not a Humanist. Is Humanism different than Ethical Culture, and if so, is it time to reclaim our identity as distinct from Humanism?
