Platform: The Culture of Ethical Culture
March 7 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Political pundits often point out that the US is in the middle of a cultural war, one recently fanned into a conflagration during the attack on our nation’s Capitol building. History, however, would suggest that America has been at cultural warfare for quite some time, such as conservatism vs. progressivism, the ’60s and ’70s counter-cultural revolution, the Civil Rights Movement, women’s suffrage, the abolition of slavery, and on and on. If cultural struggles have defined the American experience since inception, what are we really saying? And what about the culture of Ethical Culture? What is it and what are we struggling against? Curt Collier, our Society’s interim leader, advocates an armistice, at least until we can figure out what this war is about and whether it’s even worth the struggle.
