Sunday was a day of social action at our Society, organized by Anne Wallman of the Social Action Committee, Lisa Schwartz from the Membership Committee, and Christina Grant from Ethical Education.
By the time the Helpsy clothing drive bins were delivered to the meetinghouse at 9:30 am, bags and boxes of donations had already been dropped off—a good sign of more to come. By the end of the clothing drive at 2 pm, all three large bins were full and there were enough overflow donations that we could have filled two more bins–550 pounds altogether! Notably, parents of Rhymes & Reasons daycare children and local mosque members dropped off cars full of donations. In fact, some of the many non-members who came to the Society with donations went inside for the platform that morning.
At the platform, Anne Wallman presented a video that highlighted some issues regarding the Ukrainian and Southern Border Refugee crises. This sparked a lively discussion by Zoom and in-person attendees. Also helping from the Social Action Committee were Orion Hooper, Eliot Lerman, and Paulo Ribeiro. After platform, Diane Koszarski from Social Affairs assembled food from the previous evening’s concert, and people gathered under the tents on the lawn to eat, socialize, and write postcards for Reclaim Our Vote.
Lisa Schwartz provided the postcards and participants donated a few dollars each for postage. About 20 people participated, and altogether we were able to send about 200 postcards for Reclaim Our Vote!
The day’s events ended when the Helpsy truck arrived to pick up the donations, which were loaded on the truck with the help of Dan Rosenblum, Elaine Fondiller, Paulo Ribeiro, Rob Eigenbrod, and Devon Wallman.
