Eat well and do good at the same time. We invite you to join a Syria Supper Club to support families of Syrian refugees recently settled in New Jersey.
The evening meal will be prepared by one or more of our new Syrian neighbors, who will share their traditional cooking skills in a table full of traditional Syrian food.
When: Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, 6-9 pm
Where: Ethical Culture Society Meetinghouse, Teaneck
Cost: $60 per person, all going to Syrian refugees who are trying to start a new life in New Jersey.
We are arranging dinners for 35 members on a first-come, first-served basis. The cooks must know in advance how much food to buy and prepare. Please give your $60 to Janet Glass or Linda Bennett to reserve a place asap or by Dec. 16.
Some do’s and don’ts
No alcohol! Some observant refugees are not comfortable around alcohol.
No photos! Some refugees are nervous about the security of their families remaining in Syria and do not want anything on the Internet or social media.
No hand-shaking! Religiously observant men and women do not touch.
Do! Assume that they have been through a traumatic journey, and provide a warm smile and a sincere welcome.
We will break bread together and share stories. Interpreters will accompany the cooks.
